The Plastic-Free Waters Initiative is being jointly advanced by thousands of IYFR members around the world.
Under the leadership of International Commodores, fleets across the three IYFR regions are working together to turn the vision of “Plastic-Free Waters” into concrete action.
Each region has its own organizational structure; however, there is one shared global strategic plan and one unified coordination mechanism guiding the overall implementation.
Dozens of Rotary districts and Rotary clubs worldwide are working closely with IYFR to take action in three key areas:
Raise Awareness
Increase public awareness of plastic pollution in rivers, lakes, and oceans.
Promote Sustainable Solutions
Identify and propose sustainable solutions that can be adopted by Rotary International, districts, clubs, and individual Rotarians to help address this global environmental emergency.
Reduce Plastic Entering Waterways
Develop reliable systems and practical processes for collecting, sorting, processing, and recycling plastic waste recovered from waterways.
Through these efforts, we can significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste entering canals, rivers, and oceans.
From local action to global impact, we work together to protect the waters that connect us all.
